My Goal:
Is to help you learn the basic care of Hoys and how to bloom them.
Hi, and welcome! If you love plants and have a soft spot for Hoyas, you’re in the right place. I’ve always loved the unique look of Hoyas their beautiful leaves, trailing vines, and the amazing flowers. On this site, I’ll be sharing what I’ve learned about Hoyas and how to take care of them, from lighting and watering to soil, fertilizing, repotting, and everything in between. Whether you already have a Hoya collection or you’re thinking about getting your very first one, my goal is to make caring for these beautiful plants feel simple and not overwhelming. Fist what are hoyas and who discovered them.
Penn State Extension, Mandy SmithWho discovered, identified, and named them.
"Discovered in the early 1800s by the Scottish botanist Robert Brown, during an expedition to Western Australia, Hoya species were collected along with 3400 other species of plants. Brown not only named the genus but also named a new plant family to accommodate the characteristics of the hoyas and their relatives. The Hoya genus is named after Brown's close friend and fellow botanist, Thomas Hoy, who was the head gardener at the estate of the Duke of Northumberland. Brown first classified the Hoya genus in Apocynaceae, i.e., the dogbane family; however, in later years, he found that there were certain characteristics of hoyas and their relatives that determined the need for a new family. He named Asclepiadaceae, the milkweed family, for plants that have white sap and leaves that are mainly opposite or whorled, along with other traits."

There are any interesting and beautiful features of Hoya, there foliage, Leaves range from small and oval to large and elongated. Some varieties are heavily veined, splashy, speckled, or even curly. Vining or trailing, Most Hoyas naturally climb or trail, making them excellent hanging-basket plants or plants trained onto a trellis. So the leaves are beautiful and interesting alone but in my opinion the flowers are the best part and we will talk much more about them on this site. So grab your favorite plant, get comfortable, and let’s talk Hoyas!
